Land Use Policy

NYTRO members may purchase a land use permit which allows them access to all the NYTRO managed properties. These lands may be accessed at any time with the exception of closure during deer hunting season.

These lands have been secured through private business, logging or paper companies, and private landowners. Use of these lands is a privilege and not a right. Access to these lands may be lost at any time if we do not observe the simple rules listed below. These rules are a requirement for use and must be followed.  Failure to follow these rules may result in your loss of land use privileges or in extreme cases, expulsion from the club.

Rules for use of NYTRO managed lands:

  1. Registration and insurance are required and a copy of both must be sent in to NYTRO for verification
  2. Land use permit sticker must be applied to the front fender of machine and visible for inspection
  3. Helmet must be worn at all times when riding
  4. Eye protection is required
  5. Stay on marked trails!  If you are unsure, DO NOT proceed down the trail!  Some trails go off to private areas and are used by local residents. If there is no visible marking, stay out
  6. Obey all signage, including posted signs
  7. Pack out all you brought in!  Leave no visible signs of your use. NO TRASH may be left on sight. If you find trash at the site, please do your best to pick it up and notify us.
  8. Park in designated areas only
  9. DRUGS AND ALCOHOL ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED AND MONITORED!  ANYONE CAUGHT VIOLATING THIS POLICY WILL BE EXPELLED FROM THE CLUB.
  10. Visitors or NON-NYTRO members, or guests of members must meet requirements of NYTRO land use to meet our insurance requirements. Non members may use the lands when accompanied by a current land use permit holder.  NYTRO land use managers must be notified in advance of use. NYTRO limits non member usage to a one time visit only. Future use will require membership and land use permit status.

Land use permit fees:

Most chapters charge a $10 per machine per year. Our Eastern Chapter charges a larger fee because they are required to pay a lease agreement for the lands which they manage. Please contact them for information regarding their specific policy.

For most chapters, the land use permit is in effect from May 1st - April 30th. It is good at Cuba NY, Vestal NY, North Chemung NY and East Greenfield NY (Please note: you must make arrangements with the Eastern Chapter ahead of time to ride at the East Greenfield property).

If you attend a minimum of two work parties at any NYTRO managed lands, you will receive a free land use permit for the following year. This policy is in effect to promote involvement and is a courtesy shown to you for your assistance in maintaining the lands for use of all members.

If you have any questions regarding land use, please contact the chapter you wish to join for more specific information.
