Scavenger Hunt at Vestal Trails NYTRO OHV NewsNew York Trail Riders Organization, Inc. Volume 15, Issue 11 November 2007 By Gary Burns NYTRO Southern Tier had our annual Scavenger Hunt on November 3rd at Vestal. It was originally scheduled for October 27th, but the weather wasn't looking good so we postponed until November 3rd. It was a cool day, but not too bad for November. We put out 18 different items on the trail to be found. Some were easy, and some were more difficult. We time the groups, but in order to find the items you must go very slow. We had three teams that participated in the event. Each group went out separately with 15 minutes between them. Groups ranged from three riders to five. The groups searched the trails for about three hours. Only one team found everything on the trail. We had food before, during, and after the scavenger hunt. After the scavenger hunt was complete, we headed over to a muddy area for some mud runs. Leroy, Walt, Jay, Billy, and even Kim went through the mud run several times. After the mud run we did a little more riding around the field. It was getting pretty muddy and Leroy was spraying mud all over. He came around and even got me. I chased after him and he was going a little fast in the next corner and ended up sliding all the way around. As he did that I cut inside and hit the throttle on my KFX700. The tires cut loose (Continued on page 2) Newsletter Article Submissions: newsletter@nytroatv.org Check us out on the web at http://www.nytroatv.org Chapter Information NYTRO Inc. At least I did get him this time. All in all in was a good time. Good riding, good food, and good fun for everyone. We will most likely have it again next year, so try and join us if you can. If you can help sell these tickets please contact one of the officers. Half the money will stay with our club! First prize is a Polaris ATV. There are also 19 more chances to win cash prizes. At the November meeting we will be discussing the newsletter. The newsletter is getting very expensive. Members are also complaining that they are not receiving the newsletter until after the meeting. Some of the suggestions that have been made are: 1. Just do a posting of the newsletter on our web site 2. E-mail a copy to membership 3. Do away with the newsletter. If you have any ideas please bring them to the next meeting, we will be voting on this. We will also be planning the ATV events at the fairgrounds. If you have not renewed your dues this will be your last newsletter. If anyone is parking at the club property and you DO NOT have a parking sticker on your vehicle, please contact Moak at ncatva500@aol.com or 857-2874. These parking stickers must be in a window. Without them you are taking the chance of having your vehicle ticketed or towed. * * * * * North Country ATV Association NYTRO of Eastern NY A division of NYTRO Inc. As no one is showing up to nominate/elect officers, the same slate of officers will carry on for one more year. Please consider stepping and taking a position next year as the President’s and Secretary’s positions will be open. The officers for 2007-2008 are as follows: President: Gary Burns Vice President: Dave Conners Secretary: Pam Burns Treasurer: Ron Horton Ride Coordinators: Tammy & Rick Nichols We reviewed pictures of a new riding area called Lost Trails ATV Park near Mount Pocono, PA. Nice place, but they need more trails. A bit pricey, too. The October 6th Jasper ride had GREAT weather this year! Nice change from last year!!! The mileage seemed to be down a bit though. Awesome food as always. NYSORVA is having a fundraiser raffle once again this year. All clubs are welcome to participate by selling tickets. Half of all sales stay with the club. Perhaps we can participate next year if we can find someone who can coordinate and track ticket sales. We held our annual scavenger hunt on Saturday, November 3rd after postponing it for a week due to rain! The winning team members were Jay Piel, Adam Klimas, Billy Mitchell, Leroy Card and Kim Hall with 18 out of 18 items found. Second place went to the team of Walt and Jamie Webster and Steve Smith with 15 out of 18 items found. Third place went to the team of Rick, Tammy and Brent Nichols and Ron Horton with 12 out of 18 items found. Thanks to all who participated and all the great food everyone brought! ***** Next club meeting: 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 13th at Gander Mountain in Johnson City. Dinner at 6:15 PM at the Chinese Buffet next door. ~Pam & Gary Burns REMINDER: Trails closed November 17th thru December 9th for deer gun season! Volume 15, Issue 11 Page 4 Chapter News NYTRO Northern NY Club Officers President-Mike Bellinger e-mail: nytroofnny@yahoo.com phone: (315) 232-2076 ********** News from the North As president I was asked to attended a "Rails to Trails" meeting last night 10/04 in West Carthage. All recreational user groups where asked to attend, seeking support to pursue the abandonment of the Rail Line and opening a Multi-Use Trail System from Lowville to Carthage. As everything seems to go, they would like the clubs’ help but are not sure of the funding at this time. It was mentioned that there may be a fee or permit process, so time will tell. There where several DOT and State groups there and the ATV inclusion in the project was will received. After our last Northern Chapter NYTRO meeting was in September, we will not be meeting again until spring. Depending on the Political Forces at work within our county we will have to wait and see where the Northern Chapter Stands and in which direction we plan to proceed. Hunting Season is upon us and hopefully with some luck we will be able to fill our freezers early and move on to fall trail work. We have added a 5' bush hog mower and post hole digger to my equipment list. With my new tri axle goose-neck trailer we can now mobilize the equipment to various trails as we grow. Over the winter I plan on pursuing the purchase of a dump trailer which will round out our needs to develop the trail base and repair wet spots. Even though we have had a record dry spell I have managed to bury the Club tractor twice. The first time my small dozer was unable to pull it from the swamp I ended up in and had to call on a neighbor who responded with a monster 4WD that made it look so easy. My new ATV Warn winch with the snatch block worked well the second time I dropped into a ditch. Last month I was excited for awhile when I found a local tractor dealer had taken in a mid size Kubota 4WD back hoe. It didn't last long, when the price of $28K was mentioned as giving us a deal. Oh well, something for us to work on down the road. Trails are still being discussed at this time from the county legislators. It is hard at times to envision a master trail plan when the local government continues to tell you, "You live here now ride where you want." Now that we are able to offer insurance many landowners are considering legalizing their land so that the rampant illegal riding can be brought back under control. In wrapping up I wish all and their families a Safe and Happy Fall. ~ Later Michael B ~ NYTRO of NNY Volume 15, Issue 11 Page 5 Chapter News NYTRO Western NY Club Officers President: Dale Mackey Email: rb757@aol.com Phone: 716-549-6118 Vice President: Norm Queeno Email: dajokerman72@yahoo.com Phone: 716-941-6280 Treasurer: Julie Mackey Email: rb757@aol.com Phone: 716-549-6118 Secretary: Sandy Queeno Email: dajokerman72@yahoo.com Phone: 716-941-6280 * * * * * Check out our Yahoo!
