NYTRO OHV News New Y o rk Tra il Rid e rs O r g a n i za tion , In c. Volume 14, Issue 3 March 2006 Help Needed to get ATV Program Included in State Budget! To Club Leaders and Local Advocates: We are very close but need several extra pushes to get us over the top to getting an ATV Program included in the State Budget. Specifically, we have not got the full support of the State Assembly yet and that is this week’s focus in Albany in our lobbying push. Please pitch in pursuant to the following plus any good ideas you can think up. Along with your continued pleadings to your Assembly Members and Senators, we’d like to ask that… 1) At least the President of each club send a letter to their local newspapers in support of the Trail Program proposal that the Governor and Senate are promoting. (State Assembly needs to be prodded along now.) Look up local newspaper contact info here: http:// www.usnpl.com/ nynews.html. Some papers have online editorial submission pages, others have a dedicated email address, and some will accept by fax, all by paper mail of course. The faster the submission method the better since time is of the essence. 2) Reach out to your local dealers and get them involved in spreading the word. 3) If you manage a club web site, or frequent ATV forums, please post the link to the online Letter Writing Application: http:// www.arra-access.com/ campaign/ NYATVTrailSystem/ and email it to your list if you manage an e- mailing list. Get it out there any way you can think up. For instance, see http:// www.nytrostier.org/ as an example. This club has also set up a computer at a local dealer to allow patrons to easily participate while the thought of riding is high on their mind (surely since they are at the dealer…). The reason for all this effort right now: We have solid support in Senate and the Governor’s office. Now we just need the Assembly Democrats to come to the Budget Negotiation Table with the same sentiment as the other two players. And those negotiations are underway now, so we must strike immediately before the Budget iron cools down (passage expected April 1st). Thanks for everything that you all have been contributing to this effort (for years…). We’re doing our best here in Albany to make this happen for the riders finally this year. Our meetings there will be on the 3rd Thursday of the month till summer when we meet at an event for the month. We had 14 members present so once again was unable to fill committee positions. I will be filling the membership chairmanship until someone comes forward to take over. Next month is renewal time so please help by renewing early. I have the 2006 cards and stickers so you can contact me when ready. We will only be asking new members to provide copies of Registration and Insurance unless there has been a change in your infor mation on file with us, in hopes to make the process easier. We still strongly encourage everyone to have machines legally registered and insured when riding. “Remember to shrink wrap or store your up-dated information in a waterproof container on your machine.” Also use a copy not the original “which if stolen is transferable.” If an officer can’t read it you could get a ticket. ~COMUNICATION~ Over the past few months a lot of information has been passed between and within the clubs. As your leader I am sorry & have taken for granted the technology of the Internet. Which has resulted in a lack of response from members. We have a mailing list for those who wish. If you would like to be added to this list please let me know. Receiving e-mail is my main way to communicate with you. If you don’t check it but a couple times a month or respond when asked it makes it hard for a club to plan things or provide a service to you. Please let me know what the preferred way of communication would be best for you so that I can improve the communication chain & make the Club and ATV Sport Stronger. ~NEWS~ The Jefferson County Trail Coordinator Position is moving forward. The 25 or so applications are now being reviewed and the interview process will soon begin. This is speculated to take up to 3 to 6 weeks. The Trail Council is also being formed. The JCATV Clubs Inc. president has been asked to represent the County ATV Clubs. There are roughly 25 groups that asked to be represented. We hope that once it is formed that they will be able to accomplish things on a timely manner. Club advertisement bulletin boards are now going up in the county. A location listing will be put out, along with an ATV discount listing for members in good standing. Upcoming Events are posted in the minutes and on the web so please mark your Calendars. ~ TRAILS~ Last December Lewis County rescinded the resolution that opened their county roads. This has now closed the access to Barnes Corners to ATV’s. The DEC has been out in force ticketing Riders in Jefferson & Lewis Counties that are riding Illegally. A legal road or trail on Public property is one that is marked with a legal sign “open to ATV Use “ by local Law. Just because you may of ridden on it in the past you may no longer due so according to the DEC unless it is marked. So all Clubs are Strongly encourage to up date their information and pass it on until the State has a program in place and a Legal Trail Map can be provided to there members & the Public. With the delay of a State ATV Policy and the County Trail Program Future Plans on working in the County reforestation lands is on Hold. We hope to see changes over the next few months and will keep everyone posted as these take effect. We do have work details planned in the SC community Park and Adopt a Highway Program so member’s support is needed. “Remember to Ride Smart & Ride Safe we will see you on the Trails” NYTRO of NNY: A Division of the New York Trail Riders Organization, Inc. members of: JCATV~ (Jeff.
